Police foiled an ISIS-linked bomb plot in Hyderabad, arresting two suspects, Siraj and Sameer, in a joint Telangana-Andhra operation.
The Telangana Police has foiled a bomb plot in Hyderabad in a joint operation with the Andhra Pradesh police. The operation led to the arrest of two terror operatives — Siraj from Vizianagaram and Sameer from Hyderabad — who were allegedly planning to carry out a dummy blast in the city.
Reportedly, Siraj procured explosive materials in Vizianagaram as part of the plan. The duo had received instructions from an ISIS module based in Saudi Arabia, which was allegedly guiding them to carry out attacks in Hyderabad. Both the terror operatives are taken into custody.
This joint operation involved Telangana Counter-Intelligence and Andhra Pradesh Intelligence.
In the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, security forces have launched extensive search operations across several states, including Jammu and Kashmir, following inputs about the possible presence of terrorists.
The National Investigation Agency also on Friday raided 15 locations in Punjab linked to gangster Happy Passian, who is connected with Pakistan-based Khalistani terrorist Harwinder Singh alias Rinda, in connection with the grenade attack on a police station in Gurdaspur district in December last year.
On April 22, a group of terrorists -- including both Pakistani nationals and local operatives linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba -- opened fire at tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. While security officials have identified the perpetrators, they remain at large and have yet to be traced after fleeing the scene.
HYDERABAD: A major terror plot has been foiled in Hyderabad with the arrest of two individuals suspected of planning bomb blasts in the city. The suspects, identified as Siraj Ur Rehman (29) and Syed Sameer (28), are believed to have links with an ISIS module operating out of Saudi Arabia.
The arrests were made following a joint operation by the counter-intelligence units of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Police. Siraj Ur Rehman was initially apprehended in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, based on an intelligence tip-off. His interrogation led to the subsequent arrest of Syed Sameer in Hyderabad.
Police recovered explosive materials, including ammonia, sulphur, and aluminium powder, from the premises linked to the suspects. These materials are commonly used to create improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Investigations revealed that these chemicals were purchased via online e-commerce sites.
Authorities suspect that the individuals were self-radicalized and were in communication with a Saudi Arabian handler. They had reportedly participated in closed internet groups disseminating extremist content and used social media for communication with their handler. While no official affiliation with a known terrorist organization has been verified, officials believe they have ideological ties to ISIS.
The suspects had reportedly conducted a test explosion in a forest area outside Vizianagaram and were in the process of testing and assembling explosive devices, though no definitive target or timing for a real attack had been finalized.
Both suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be produced in court soon. The operation comes amidst heightened vigilance following recent terror incidents, including the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
